Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Are you insured?

A: Absolutely. We value the trust being placed in us when you choose Boxwood Carpentry & Construction. We have years of construction experience that helps us avoid the avoidable, however, even with experienced workers who approach your home with care, accidents can still happen. We are fully insured to give you peace of mind that in the event of an accident that affects your home, we will make it right.

Q: Do you give free quotes?

A: Yes, but not in the way you might expect. We provide an initial range of costs after seeing photos of the job you would like performed and briefly discussing the details over the phone. If that range of costs is acceptable to you, then we set up a site-visit meeting to get more specifics about the project, including accurate measurements and details from the homeowner that will allow us to provide a detailed quote.

Q: Are you a general contractor and if so, what does that mean?

A: Yes, we operate as a general contractor (GC) on some of our jobs. A GC usually works directly with the client to plan the remodel. Once the remodel is underway the GC continues to be the primary point of contact for the homeowner, while also managing the day-to-day details of the job, making sure that all the sub-contractors (experts in each field doing the work) are performing the work as laid out in the plans on schedule and on budget.

Q: Why should I hire a GC?

A: In a word, you are hiring a GC for their expertise. A good GC won't always have the answers, but he or she should definitely know what questions to ask and who to go to for the answer. Remodel projects require knowledge of many different facets of construction from plumbing and electrical to tile and drywall. Did you know some trades like plumbing and electrical will visit the job site multiple times to do both rough-in work and trim-out work? Do you know the difference between thin-set and mastic? Do you know if the tile installer you hired waterproofs the shower enclosure before installing the tile? A good GC knows these answers and also enough about the big picture to make sure that the work being done stays on schedule, meets code requirements and meets your expectations.
